Visit to King Arthur's Hall Sunday 16th June 2002
Quite the worse day of the year, thick mist and damp miserable conditions saw 10 intreped members meeting up at St Breward and trekking across the moor having to keep very close to each other as the weather was so bad. After what seemed like quite a long time we reached our destination King Arthurs Hall. There is a fence around it and we had to climb over a stile to gain access.
This site is a large almost rectangular enclosure with a wide ridge about 2 meters high running most of the way round it. It has several interesting stones around the inside of the ridge and the centre holds water, which after the recent rains was 3-4 inches deep in places.
The members set about dowsing and I know that others will report more fully on their findings but I am attempting the set the scene for you. After about an hour we suddenly noticed that the mist had lifted and we could see for miles. Looking at where the cars were parked we realised that we had in the mist walked in quite a large arc to get there. It was much quicker and easier getting back to the cars. We all agreed we would return to the site in better weather.
